A room reads finished when the light is right

Start with one light at seated eye level. A table lamp beside a sofa, or a floor lamp just behind a chair, keeps faces soft and stops the ceiling from doing all the work.

Warm bulbs, around 2700K, flatter wood, linen, and stone. Cooler light belongs in a task zone: a desk, a kitchen counter, a makeup mirror. Mixing the two on purpose is what makes a home office feel like a room and not a workstation.

If you only change one thing this season, lower the glare. A linen or opal shade will do more for the mood than a brighter bulb.
