Entryways that do their job

The entry is a working surface. It needs a place for keys, a place for a bag, and a glance at yourself before you leave. Depth matters more than width. Twelve to fifteen inches is enough in a hall.

A mirror opposite a door bounces daylight deeper into the apartment. An arched top feels softer than a hard rectangle in a small foyer.

Add one living thing, even a small planter, so the first view is not only wood and metal.
