Neutral rooms that are not blank

A neutral room goes flat when every surface is the same sheen. Mix a matte wall, a woven pillow, a stone table, and a little brass. The eye needs a change in touch, not only a change in hue.

Use a plain cloth on the largest piece, and put grain, rib, or speckle on a pillow, a side table, or a planter.

Daylight will shift these colors through the afternoon. A matte wall next to a stone top already gives the room enough change.
